David Beckham’s name is synonymous with two things, soccer and his wife Victoria. It seems that everything, Beckham touches turns to gold, and his soon to be announced Miami-based MLS expansion club will probably be no different. Beckham did not earn his wealth and fame overnight and he didn’t do it by himself.
It is doubtful that the futbol star could have reached this point of power and influence without his wife Victoria. Today marks 20-years since David and the then-Victoria Adams announced their engagement.
When the then-Manchester United star midfielder got engaged with pop sensation and “Posh Spice” from the Spice Girls, the world stopped to gawk at just how big of a deal this union was. Every British boy wanted to grow up to play like Beckham, and every girl wanted to grow up to perform like Victoria.
With reports saying that the new MLS club will be confirmed on Monday, Beckham’s American soccer influence continues to rise. Ever since his famous move from one of the biggest clubs in the world in Real Madrid to a team in a league trying to make a name for itself in the LA Galaxy, Beckham has been a great ambassador for the growth of American soccer.
Victoria has never been a slouch either. The Spice Girls had the best selling female group debut album of all time (“Spice” has sold over 85 million copies). Meanwhile, David Beckham was entering the prime of his career as a Red Devil. Two seasons after being named the PFA Young Player of the Year in the Premier League, Beckham helped Manchester United win the treble in 1998/1999.
From there, Beckham went on to become a global soccer superstar, playing for Europe’s biggest clubs like Milan and Paris Saint-Germain. Similarly, Victoria’s fashions sense and former musical acclaim graced many cities around the world through fashion shows and touring.
That accumulation of wealth and fame gave way for “Posh and Becks” to manufacture several fragrances and clothing lines and appear on countless magazine covers as well as television series and documentaries. They are essentially the ultimate power couple, tackling sports, fashion and entertainment.
