The GOAT, Serena Williams, got married this past week to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian in what was arguably the wedding of the year. The couple gathered amongst family and friends in New Orleans at the Contemporary Arts Center for a “Beauty and the Beast” themed ceremony.
Serena and Alexis met in May 2015 in Rome, and neither had heard of the other. However, they soon began dating and got engaged on December 10, 2016. Serena announced her pregnancy shortly after the 2017 Australian Open, which she won while pregnant, and the couple’s daughter, Alexis “Olympia” Ohanian Jr. was born in September.
Flash-forward to November 16, 2017, and Serena is finally walking down the aisle. The tennis star looked incredible in her customized Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen ballgown.
She changed dresses twice more during the ceremony. The second and third dress were both Versace originals.
Serena rocked bedazzled Nikes down the aisle, in true star athlete fashion.
Serena famous guest list, which included Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, Kim Kardashian, Anna Wintour, Eva Longoria, Lala Anthony and Ciara, watched the ceremony from sofas that lined the aisle.
Serena’s sister and fellow tennis superstar, Venus Williams, looked stunning as she walked down the aisle in her custom-designed white dress that became a party dress for the reception.
The “royal ball” reception was filled with touches a true fan could appreciate. The guests sat at long tables named after Serena’s Grand Slam victories. And small trophies doubled as seating assignments and party favors!
They dined on a wide selection of food and had access to a Gatorade recovery bar, which they probably needed after all of the dancing that took place! The guests were entertained by performances from Broadway singer, Cynthia Erivo, New Edition, DJ Mike Wise, and several classic “Beauty and the Beast” tunes, like the couple’s first dance song, “Tale As Old As Time”. And you know Venus and Serena broke it down on the dance floor!
Alexis capped off the night with a surprise for Serena when he revealed an all-white carousel!
Although we may not have received an invite to this lavish bash, at least the gorgeous photos will help us pretend we were there too! Congratulations Serena and Alexis!
