If you don’t believe breakdancing is a sport, then take one look at incredible feats that The Rock Steady Crew and 3-time consecutive “Battle of the Year” champions Flooriorz pull off with relative ease. As a brand Puma has been synonymous with B-Boys and B-Girls for generations. To celebrate its storied hip-hop heritage, Puma is releasing the Suede 50 Breakdance Cities Pack in early 2018.
The Suede Classic’s variety of colors and thick rubber bottom made the shoe the ideal footwear for hip-hoppers in the early 80’s. And although Jordan, Nike, and adidas have supplanted Puma in mainstream hip-hop culture, Puma reigns supreme among dancers.
The Suede 50 Breakdance Cities pack pays respect to the four most influential breakdancing cities worldwide: New York, Berlin, Paris, and Seoul. These cities have kept the B-boy culture alive from its origin in the Bronx, across the pond to Europe and migrating to the Far East.
Each city gets a shoe in a colorway and graphic treatment that represents its roots.
The NYC shoe has a plush orange suede upper and Formstripe with blue lining that is reminiscent of the hometown Knicks and Mets. The shoe comes with fat laces come in orange, white and blue and a gold 1968 lace lock. The Paris edition takes its cue from France’s flag with a blue suede upper and fat laces in white, blue and red. The Suede Classic Berlin is highlighted by red suede upper and a black liner on the classic chunky white sole. Finally, the Seoul edition is ultra clean with a birch suede upper.
The entire collection will be released globally on January 4th, 2018. Each shoe has a corresponding t-shirt and will be made in junior, preschool and infant sizes in addition to an adult size run.
