With a career as storied as Michael Jordan’s, it is unlikely that Jordan Brand will ever run out of MJ accomplishments to pattern new shoe releases after. Two of the most anticipated J’s were announced this week with the “Win Like 82” and “Win Like 96” sneakers.
Jordan traditionally releases a new Jordan 11, every holiday season, but this year sneakerheads get the Navy iteration on November 11th and the fire red version on December, 9th.
The 1982 pair is a nod to UNC’s championship win that year. Although Carolina Blue is the color most associated with the Tarheels, Mike actually wore a navy blue practice short fairly often. MJ also wore a Carolina Blue and White Converse Pro Leather sneaker that year, but what’s a little creative license when putting together a fire sneaker?
The red and white ’96 Jordan 11 is inspired by the Chicago Bulls historic championship run of that same year. Up until the Warriors eclipsed it, the Bulls had amassed the best regular season record (72-10) in NBA history during that season. Jordan, Pippen, Rodman and company went on to beat the Supersonics in the Finals 4-2, to cement that squad as one of the best in sports history.
Jordan Brand is making both pairs available in every size from infant to grown man, with the largest retailing for $220. No word on how many pairs will be available, but with such a wide size selection, it is a safe bet that these will be general releases.
