This year’s Time 100 Most Influential People List included seven people from the world of sports.

The list honors pioneers, icons, titans, leaders and artists who are making a difference. Gymnast Simone Biles, soccer player Neymar and NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick were among the Icons. NBA’s LeBron James and Super Bowl champion Tom Brady were identified as Titans. Chicago Cubs president Theo Epstein was thrown into the leader category, and UFC fighter Conor McGregor took the title of pioneer.

Each year Time hosts a gala to celebrate these influencers and this year Kaepernick and Olympic Skier Lindsey Vonn, an honoree in 2013, stole the show on the red carpet.

As a surprise to no one, Kaepernick went against the grain and ditched the expected suit for a silk tunic. He attended with his girlfriend Nessa, a TV personality on MTV.

In addition to the gala each honoree gets profile written by one of their peers who admires them.

I thank Colin for all he has contributed to the game of football as an outstanding player and trusted teammate,” Kaepernick’s former coach Jim Harbaugh wrote in his Time 100 profile. “I also applaud Colin for the courage he has demonstrated in exercising his guaranteed right of free speech. His willingness to take a position at personal cost is now part of our American story. How lucky for us all and for our country to have among our citizens someone as remarkable as Colin Kaepernick.”

Vonn kept it sexy with a black cut out Jovani gown.
